ISO 15489 Document management
The norm consists of two parts – international norm ISO 15489-1 Information and documentation – Records management Part 1: General and technical report ISO/TR 15489-2 Information and documentation – Records management – Part 2: Guidelines. The norm has been created by technical committee ISO/TC 46 Information a Documentation, sub- committee 11 Archives/records management ; September 2001. ISO15489 was developed in response to consensus among participating ISO member countries to standardize international best practice in records management using the Australian Standards AS-4390: Records management as its starting point. It has been implemented in the normative systems in the Great Britain, France, Germany and in The Netherlands; it is translated in various languages.
The aim of the norm
The standardization of records management policies and procedures ensures that appropriate attention and protection is given to all records, and that the evidence and information they contain can be retrieved more efficiently and effectively, using practices and procedures.
